MLE Conference Call with MLB to Determine Fate of Kolache Contest

On Wednesday, September 8, 2008, Major League Baseball scheduled an emergency conference call to determine whether the Kolache Eating Contest at the September 12 Houston Astros game would proceed.

With Hurricane Ike barreling toward Texas (it's cone of uncertainty including Houston), MLE and MLB officials decided that safety was paramount and that if Ike presented any threat, the major league baseball players and eaters, and their collective fans, must be protected.

"We will not endanger anyone by trying to conduct a contest under threatening circumstances," said MLE Chairman George Shea. "The kolache contest is an institution that must continue, but only only under proper safety guidelines."

MLE promised to provide the results of the conference call as soon as it concludes.
