Oliver's Tamales-Eating Record Falls to Simpson

Texas tamales champion Levi Oliver failed to defend his title against Rookie Chip Simpson, who won the Berryhill Baja Grill tamales-eating contest in Houston.

Simpson also topped eating veteran Rich LeFevre and Patrick Bertoletti, a rookie from Chicago. Bertoletti had consumed an unbelievable 48 beef tamales when he was disqualified for a reversal of fortune.

Simpson earned his first major prize, $2500, for his efforts. Meanwhile, Tim Janus placed second with 38 tamales to earn $1000 and Rich LeFevre placed third with 36 tamales to earn $500.
